SIMPLE REVIEW ITALIAN BROOKLYN I DRIVE FROM HANAHAN TO EAT THERE. Anyone that complains about Bacco should stick to Olive Garden as that is probably more your speed. I take clients here as well after any closing in Mt Pleasnt. Matter of fact plans on order for visit next week with wife and my broker with his wife. Lou Russo Carolina One Realty

Another Italian restaurant to cross off our list. My starter was fried Mozerella - yummy when fresh rather than frozen. Sorry to say that even the frozen kind would have impressed me more.....it was soft rather than crisp and had absolutely no flavor at all, the red pepper sauce it sat in had some flavor but had the consistance of water. The crostini ordered by 2 of us were good (one with goats cheese and the other a liver pate) but not great. The Portobello mushroom salad was pretty good though. As for main courses, 2 of us ordered the Risi e Bisi (risotto with peas and pancetta) - BIG disapointment, neither of us finished it. Was a plate of rice, lots of peas and a sprinkling of pancetta ocer the top. I would be surprised if it was made with Arborio rice as there was none of the delectable creaminess nor did it cling together as expected . In fact despite taking the leftovers home my sister-in-law threw them out after dinner at home tonight as no-one wanted it. Might have been a passable side dish if it had not been so salty. The veal looked and am told tasted ok. but looked sad on the plate with 3 (yes 3) boiled potatoes. Our desserts arrived 20 minutes after our coffee did, and were hardly worth the wait. Although the mascerated strawberries that were served with the cakes were delicious - should be a dessert by itself.

After a two year absence, we returned to vacation in Folly Beach, and dined at Bacco twice. We loved it in 2009, and still love it in 2011. There were 11 of us on the first night, and three on the return visit. We tried a myriad of appetizers, entrees, and desserts the first night, and all were wonderful! I got the striped bass on the second visit, because it was so delectable! This is a gem of a restaurant, with great prices, great service, GREAT food!!!

If you are a lover of all things Italian. If you appreciate fresh ingredients prepared with love. If you are tired of the same old Spaghetti & Meatballs. You must eat at Bacco! You will keep coming back again and again. But don't take my word for it(or this other reviewer), see what all the professional Food Critics have to say. Or better yet judge for yourself. Mark my words this owner-Chef is going places.

It's place is a local gem! The varied offerings and excellent bread along with a top notch wine selection makes it a must. We highly recommend Baccos for a quiet evening with a special loved one or a special time with friends!

What a secret little gem! Really good homemade Italian food - their mozz is fantastic. And they have great specials - Tuesday night sampler menu, you can try a variety of different things in small portions - perfect! And Thurday it's half price wine - can't go wrong with that. Nice place to sit at the bar and enjoy some wine and great food.

First trip to Charleston and staying in Mt Pleasant. We were going to head out for seafood but the reviews for Bacco's intrigued us. We were glad we did. Pleasant atmosphere, excellent authentic Northern Italian cuisine and friendly attentive wait staff made for and enjoyable meal. The only shortcoming was that the Secondi (the main entree) could have been more extensive.

My family and I were in SC for a quick spring break. Having lived in Chicago and Philadelphia, we were craving some authentic Italian. Great apps like octopus and crab bruschetta. Entrees like Risotto, quail, and bucatini were all wonderful. Quality as good as major metro areas in US. Some dishes rival Rome quality. Pistachio Semifreddo excellent. My 7 year old loved the Vongole for his dinner!

What a great place! One of those rare places where you can enjoy a nicer dinner without breaking the bank. Don't be put off by the fact that it's in a strip mall - the interior is pleasant and attractive and cozy. Food was interesting and tasty, too. I enjoyed a chicken breast stuffed with sausage and figs (oh, yum) and had a nice glass of montepulciano that was priced just fine. Other meals at the table were pappardelle with a duck ragu, gnocchi with pancetta and parmesan for my daughter...lovely flourless chocolate cake for dessert and panna cotta too! Kids are fine, but I'd only bring them if they'll be appropriately behaved - it's a candlelight and low-key atmosphere. All in all, a great time. Highly recommended!

Great find! We left the Fort Sumter tour looking to feed the family. Jumped onYelp...found this place. Excellent italian food! Little higher end, so worth it. Home made pasta, great beer and wine selection. Family friendly! A must see!

Fabulous! Authentic! Excellent wine menu. Great service. I discovered this place by accident while on vacation but after I did I went back 4 more times with friends. The chef/owner is Italian and knows his stuff. I was in Italy this past year and he is as good as anything I had in Tuscany. I am recommending this place to everyone I know. Lulu - Knoxville, TN

Bacco has become one of my favorite places to take the wife for lunch...I only wish we could go more often! By far, BY FAR, the best fresh mozzerella I've ever had. And it's not a one time deal...every time we've gone, the mozzerella has been fresh and delicious. What's better is it's warm...as in JUST SPUN. Amazing. The sandwiches are simple and delicious. Just like a simple, cute little Italian cafe. Don't bypass this place just b/c it's in a strip...the food is amazing and the service top notch.

On Saturday, March 3rd, my girlfriend and I went to Bacco for dinner. The restaurant is conveniently located on the edge of a shopping center just over the bridge from Charleston on Mt. Pleasant. When we entered the restaurant, we were greeted by a cheerful hostess who told us our table was being prepared and would be ready momentarily. When we sat at the bar to wait for the table, we had a glass of a crisp rosé prosecco. We noticed lots of beautiful details in the décor: swirls in the paint on the walls, gentle lighting, and mirrors on a few of the walls to expand the space. A few minutes later, we were enjoying an appetizer: artichoke hearts, quartered and lightly battered and fried in almost a tempura style, with goat cheese and lemon. After that delicious starter, we took our seats at the table. On our request, our waiter guided us through a few wines on the menu based on our description of wines we enjoy. We were able to narrow it down to two choices: a Chianti and a Super Tuscan. Our waiter gave us a taste of each and, while both were good, we went with the bigger, bolder flavors of the Super Tuscan. Next, we ordered two more appetizers. First were organic, hydroponic heirloom tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella with balsamic vinegar, sea salt, and olive oil. Extremely fresh, wonderful textures, and simple, perfect seasoning. Second was a duo of octopus. The first preparation was a local octopus caught off Charleston. It was served in a thick, salty, substantial broth with small orzo-like pasta and sliced radishes. The second preparation was an octopus caught off the coast of Portugal. It was wood-grilled and served on a bed of sliced potato and arugula. That octopus was grilled perfectly and had a wonderful texture. The slight char of the wood grill was extremely flavorful and the arugula complemented it nicely. From the sea back to the land: our next course comprised duck and veal. The duck was confit served in a lasagna wrapper with carrots, celery, and basil. Pasta cooked perfectly, of course, and the filling was great. Tender meat and bright vegetables made for wonderful flavors. The veal was all about textures. The preparation was a risotto ball that was crispy on the outside, creamy in the middle, and meaty in the center. The outside of the ball was fried and had a gentle crunch to it. The middle was a creamy, cheesy risotto. The center was a shredded osso buco with a sauce made from its own juices. In a word, incredible; so many different textures and flavors working in harmony. A homemade gnocchi bolognase further proved the Bacco's versatility and mastery of pasta. Just the right level of starchiness in the gnocci itself and just enough saltiness and flavor imparted on the pasta by the meat. Our next course consisted of a steak plate and a quail plate. I don't recall if the steak had a sauce on it, but one thing I certainly remember from that plate were the figs. Yes, figs. Absolutely delicious little fruit bites intensely flavored with balsamic vinegar. My girlfriend and I couldn't agree on whether the figs had been injected with the balsamic or merely soaked in it, but either way the result was a burst of the delicious vinegar with every bite. The quail was phenomenal. It was rubbed with spices and served with sausage, butternut squash and pearl onions. The meat would have fallen off the bone if it weren't held on by a crispy and well-seasoned skin. One of the best bites we've had in a long time. And finally dessert: a duo of tiramisu and vanilla bean panna cotta with sliced strawberries and an aged cherry balsamic vinegar. The desserts themselves were delicious enough on their own, but they were taken to the next level by a pairing of Disaronno with the panna cotta and a pistachio liqueur with the tiramisu. It was such a joy tasting the desserts and their alcohol pairings together. The location, décor, service, food, and atmosphere of Bacco have me wishing that it were much, much closer than 8+ hours away.

This was by far the best Italian I've had. My husband and I stumbled upon this hidden gem. Do not be fooled by the strip mall. This place has fabulous service and fresh homemade Italian. We both ordered the three course sampling. This was a great way to try some new and authentic dishes. I would definitely recommend.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
